Spring Fever

Along with sore throat, swollen glands and body aches. No running since last Thursday except for the brief walk/run Buddy and I tried today. Starting to feel better except for the achy joints.

I've not registered for the marathon yet due to a potential work conflict. The race is on Saturday of Labor Day weekend and registration is the day before. I'd have to take a least part of Friday off to make it work, BUT my request for personal leave the day before a long weekend might not be granted. Any ideas for an alternative marathon in September in Montana, Idaho or Washington?

Hi Iris! I am having a hard time keeping up with blog activity lately so I am playing some catch-up! Very scary for you to black out, and especially so frequently - I would be freaked out! I am surprised it has taken so long for the docs to figure it out - I hope things can improve for you. I know that would be my first reaction, too - "Oh no, what if I can't run or ride!". Those things make up a huge part of who we are. I will keep my eyes on the lookout for a good Fall marathon - road or trail? (Trail is 'more better'!) Get over your crud quickly....

I know that it's not in one of the states that you mentioned, but I would recommend the Top Of Utah marathon on September 18. It was my second marathon. It's beautiful. The course is well marked. Great organization and porta-potties at EVERY mile. Mountain men with their black powder rifles start the race - it's just got a fun and friendly atmosphere. It's just 30-ish miles from the Idaho border. http://www.topofutahmarathon.com/

Hi, Iris,

Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather. At least it gives you time to cruise internet race calendars to find that ideal marathon!

My recommendation is Two Bears (Whitefish), on 9/12. It’s a challenging course, with some trail sections that would give you a chance to show off your hill running prowess. Hey, like we always say: “If you’ve got it, flaunt it!”

The Salmon (ID) marathon is 9/18. I think Danni has run it. My guess is it’s hilly, but not like Two Bears. Top of Utah, as has been suggested, also sounds like a good one, and probably the fastest course of the three.

Whichever, they’re all good preparation for Le Grizz!

Thanks for all the well wishes! I checked out the suggested marathons and I'm thinking Two Bear might be the winnner. Not going to be a fast time for me but the trail portions make it tempting. As for Le Grizz, Martin, wanna race?
